i made a system that catches rain water, then i use it to flush the toilet. this has many advantages.
i pay 97p for a cubic meter of water. last quarter we ( a family of 3) saved 20 cubic meters of water. i am also exempt from paying for disposal of rain water thats another £50pa saved.
very frugal i hear you think but what has that to do with carbon? i’ve just learnt that for every liter of water 0.31 grams of co2 is made. you do the math! this system is not perfect. it is’nt pretty. but the whole thing cost less than £100.

Oooh good for you.

I take it the rainwater exemption thing is because you have soakaway rather than drains? I keep meaning to look into that with our water company…we’re supposed to be able to save £40 p.a. At the moment all we have is a rainwater barrel for watering the plants, probably saved us about 1 cubic metre of water per year. We’re thinking of getting another one for the other side of the house, though!

What a great idea! Congratulations!

If you install a water harvesting system in France you can claim a substantial grant, why doesnt our government offer this incentive?
