Travel

I have family in Italy and of course I like to see them when I can, but usually I fly over there to see them. I’m learning the language too, and I go there to practice as well as visit my family. But I want to fly less – if anything I want to stop flying at all – but I still want to see them. Help! Are there any other options for travelling there? :(

Why not travel by train. Once you are on the continent the trains in France run on non fossil produced energy, and it is more relaxing by train as well.

and somehow more romantic <3>

Thanks, that sounds good. And it usually is very chaotic flying. :)

I’ve looked at going by train but it seems pretty expensive :(

things that become our consideration.
we want to save the earth but the price we pay is very expensive.
there is at your discretion.

For crying out loud. The plane is still going to take off without you. Even if you decide not to fly, you can almost bet your train ticket that there will be empty seats on the plane. Just get on and go see your family.

rindishy,
I am just trying to make a difference. A small difference maybe , but I am just trying to save the planet. I can’t see any harm in that.

Perhaps you should have a look at your own footprint, almost 5 times that of LittleMY, and think that she is only trying to do her bit for the planet

Rindishy, the plane may leave without LittleMY the first time, however if people stop taking planes, it’s mathematical, the companies will reduce the amount of flights they offer. One person may not make a difference, but as usual in this situation, it’s the adding up that matters.

If you don’t take the plane, likleyhood is someone else will or even if no-one does then technically it’s made the carbon emissions of that flight a little worse per person.
Since we’re never going to stop air traffic the best method will be to ensure flights are full so that the emissions per person are less (the downside to this is that the companies will take it to mean they need MORE flights) – also look into new technologies to power aeroplanes.
Train travel is unfortunatly more expensive because it takes much longer. A quick search found that a plane journey from London to Milan takes 1h 55m traveling time (so not counting having to get to the airport 2 hours before the flight). A similar journey on the train takes over 12 hours (nearly 13.5 in some cases).
