Reduce your food miles and avoid buying produce which has been air freighted to the UKHelp
Did you know: Per mile, air freighting releases 10 times more CO2 than goods transported by road and 50 times more than sea freighted goods. Reading the labels can help you to find out the country of origin of your food, and retailers can tell you how it was delivered to the store. This will help you make informed choices about the distance your food has travelled before it lands on your plate.

Reduce your flying as much as possible. When you must fly use a Gold Standard offset scheme.Help
Many companies are now offering to "offset" emissions from activities such as flying - this means that they promise to invest your money in reducing emissions in other countries. However, it is vitally important that we in the UK reduce our own emissions - and offsetting should not be used as an excuse for people or companies in the UK to continue high-carbon or polluting activities that could easily be avoided. Another concern is that there are no clear rules to guarantee that offset providers are selling genuine emission reductions. WWF recommends that if you do use an offsetting scheme, make sure it is certified to the Gold Standard, an independent scheme set up to make sure that emission reduction projects are truly sustainable. Some offset providers that offer Gold Standard schemes include Myclimate, Atmosfair and Climate Friendly.

Switch to a water meterHelp
Did you know: We all use different amounts of water at home but homes without meters all pay the same rate, based on our property's rateable value. If you only use small amounts of water then shifting to a meter may cut your bills as you only pay for the water you use. It is free to switch and you could save up to 5-10% off your water bill. You can check on the Uswitch website to find out if you can get a water meter fitted in your area.

Buy Marine Stewardship Council certified fishHelp
Did you know: Over three quarters of the world's fishing grounds have been so overfished they are now below sustainable levels. The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is an independent global non-profit organisation which has developed an environmental standard for sustainable and well-managed fisheries. MSC-certified products now include Thames herring and prawns from Scotland's Loch Torridon, as well as salmon and other products from around the world. They can be bought in shops, supermarkets and even restaurants in the UK.
