Beetler has done all this ...

  • Food

Reduce your food miles and avoid buying produce which has been air freighted to the UKHelp

Did you know: Per mile, air freighting releases 10 times more CO2 than goods transported by road and 50 times more than sea freighted goods. Reading the labels can help you to find out the country of origin of your food, and retailers can tell you how it was delivered to the store. This will help you make informed choices about the distance your food has travelled before it lands on your plate.

  • Travel

    Campaign against airport expansionHelp

Did you know: Aviation has the fastest growing carbon emissions of any industry sector. Before booking a flight consider whether there is a viable alternative - such as a coach, train or ferry - or even take holidays closer to home. Cutting down on one long-haul flight a year could reduce your transport footprint by 24%. It is now becoming clearer that flying has an even greater impact on climate change than previously thought as it is likely that emissions of greenhouse gases at high altitudes have between 2 and 4 times more impact on climate change than at ground level

Borrow, instead of buying, baby equipmentHelp

While babies need certain clothes and equipment to survive and be stimulated they only tend to need them for a few months or a year before they have grown out of them. Often you will find that informal networks of friends and family are created where these items are shared around. If you can't borrow the item you need there are often National Childbirth Trust-organised 'nearly new' sales.

  • Food

Buy locally grown and produced foodHelp

Did you know: Buying local food will generally result in a lower footprint. For example, every tonne of strawberries we fly into the UK from north Africa or the Middle East releases more than four and a half tonnes of CO2, whereas the same amount of locally grown, seasonal, strawberries will only release 17kg - one-three-hundredth the amount! Buying more locally grown food can reduce your food footprint by about 10%. However, it is vitally important that we don't ignore the value of fairly traded products as a means of income for producers in developing countries. Therefore when you do buy produce from overseas try to buy from fairly traded sources.

Instead of driving to school, use lower-carbon forms of transport

    Report fly-tipped/abandoned vehiclesHelp

Did you know: Over 350,000 cars are abandoned in the UK every year and along with other dumped waste are potentially hazardous to health and wildlife.

After all this, Beetler will have a footprint of 1.88 planets, and a carbon footprint of 7.57 tonnes per annum
